Dragon Forum 2008 in Kraków
(2008-06-10)
Dragon Forum Pitching 2008 took place during the 48th KRAKOW FILM FESTIVAL on June 1st – 5th, 2008 in the Centre of Japanese Art and Technology MANGGHA.
There have been presented 21 projects from Poland Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Italy, Ukraine and Great Britain. All of them aimed too zoom on middle and eastern European issues, however many of them turned to be also very personal stories.
Among the participants there were both already experienced international filmmakers and fresh students, who had a chance to meet for the very first time this kind of form of presentation.
All of them had previously prepared themselves and their projects during workshops and individual interviews with prominent tutors.
They had also great and very rare opportunity to personally meet Comissioning Editors from Europe's most significant TV stations. I happened very often that during those kinds of interviews a promise of cooperation, co-production or even financial assistance were offered. We hope that this will help to transform our participant’s projects into films.
All of the projects from this years ‘s Dragon Forum got their attention and interest from the representatives of the European TV stations present at the pitching.
Apart form that, there are two projects which success is still worth mentioning. „The Themersons” by Victoria Szymanska and „Kazimierz Proszynski- genious no 129957” by Bartek Paduch not only collected the bigger ovation after their pitchings, but also received real proposals regarding co-production and finances.
Opinions of both participants and Comissioning Editors clearly prove that this year’s pitching covered their expectations. They have stressed high level and diversity of the presented projects as well as penetrating, clear-sighted comments of the tutors and good management filled with creative atmosphere.
HBO Development Award got the Romanian project “Home Alone” by Ionut Carpatorea and Sorin Manu.
The Dragon Forum Organizers Award has been given to three projects:
- „Józef z Dubnika” by Ewa and Hubert Stępniewicz
- „Co się wydarzyło na wyspie Pam” by Eliza Kubarska
- „Return to yourself” by Anna Tokareva and Julia Utysheva
