Dragon Forum 2007- Summary

Dragon Forum is an annual international workshop for documentary filmmakers in the centre of Europe. It gives practical aid in developing a project and seeking coproduction possibilities for a future film. The Head of Studies is Marcel Łoziński. The final pitching takes place during the KRAKOW FILM FESTIVAL.

The Dragon Forum Pitching 2007 was held on 2 – 4 June 2007 at the Manggha Centre for Japanese Art and Technology during the 47th Krakow Film Festival.

26 projects were presented to the commisssioning editors from various countries. The authors came from Poland and Ukraine, Macedonia, Hungary, Switzerland, Denmark, Holland, Germany, Bellorus. The subject matter of the projects varied, it concerned the contemporary problems of Central -Eastern Europe, at times the ideas constituted some personal autheur statements. Among the participants there were both filmmakers with international pitching experience as well as those beginning their career: students for whom it had been the first time ever to take part in a pitch. Some had been preparing their presentations during the Dragon Forum workshop and at individual consultancy meetings with renowned tutors. The others had applied just to present their pitches.

During the pitching and the follow-up talks and backstairs discussions there were many declarations of financial support or coproduction agreements. We hope all these will bear fruit in final film productions. About 16 projects were particularly interesting for the commissioning editors. In the opinion of the observers, the pitching participants and the commissioning editors, the pitching met the expectations of the filmmakers. They stressed high level and diversity of the projects, the tutors' insightful analyses as well as good organization and the creative atmosphere of the event. We are doing our best to hold the Dragon Forum pitching each year. We are already inviting you for the next year's edition. The first workshop of the new edition shall take place in autumn 2007.

'Discovery Encouragement Award' was granted to Remigiusz Zawadzki & Marcin Kołodziejczyk for the project 'Wieś z o. o. [Village Ltd.]' „for the insight in observing modern changes in the countryside, the humour and the originality of the film idea. The award is a form of support for the development of the future film project”.

Discovery Chanel has declared further participation in the Dragon Forum and has invited its participants to produce short film to be broadcast on this international network.

The Dragon Forum Organizers Award was awarded to two projects: 'Nauczyciel z bagien [Teacher from the Marshes]' by Anna and Piotr Sadziński and to 'I’m looking for a bride' by Marija Dzidzeva and Vladimir Stojcevski.

Diplomas for the Dragon Forum participants. Each of those who completed the Dragon Forum workshop has received a diploma.
