Dragon Forum workshop on production in Warsaw

The Dragon Forum 2007 workshop on the production took place on April 11 – 14, 2007 in Warsaw’s Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle. Tutors were: Marcel Łoziński, Jacek Bławut, Katarzyna Maciejko-Kowalczyk, Dorota Paciarelli, Zbigniew Domagalski, Marjory van Mackelenbergh, Emma Whitlock, Bogumił Godfrejów.
Production workshop Dragon Forum 2007 was dedicated to presenting of the new projects’ versions, discussing a cost estimate, a financing plan, production assumptions and co-production’s possibilities. Discovery experts showed what kind of documentaries their station commissions and how does it work. The details of the prize awarded to the best project by Discovery Channel were given. In addition the films by the tutors, the films from Discovery Channel and from Andrzej Wajda Masterschool of Filmdirecting were screened in Kino.Lab.

- Ludzie z bagien/ Pople from the Marshes , 56 min

One year from the family life living in village Brzostowo on the territory of the Biebrzański National Park. Life there is going in the unchangeable form from about hundreds of years. Traditional pasturage of cattle is in symbiosis with nature. The people live true nature cycle, four seasons of the year. - Czerwoni Don Kichoci/ Red Don Kichots, 52 min

In the 50’s a group of Spanish left-wingers, revolutionists and their families were escaping from Franco regime. Deported from France they found a safe place and helping hand in communist Poland. Accommodated in Warsaw and Katowice, some of them still live in Poland. The document tells the story of their lives, experiences and is a difficult trial of understanding the rationale behind choices and decisions made by grandparents of Pedro Gorostiza (director) and Miguel Nieto (camera man). - Dzieci Franka / Franek’s Children, 30 min

Document about atributes of adolescent in the suburb-full of flats through visual spellingbook. The concept reminds the fractal definiton; a self-similar structure whose geometrical and topographical features are recapitulated in miniature on finer and finer scales. - Galina. The protagonists of the film will be three highly gifted children. We will study their state of consciousness, avoiding adult commentary, leaving the audience to judge for themselves ups and downs of infant prodigy life. - I’m looking for a bride, 56 min

When the summer comes to Chukotka, the men of Uelen leave their families and draw to the sea to get fresh whale meat. The life on the sea is tuff, but in the end, their hard work and their families’ long wait is awarded in the annual whale feast, by which the Chukchis have celebrated the nature for thousands of years. - Odyseja złomowa/ Scrap odyssey, 52 min

The Great Chinese Empire has bought almost all or the post-soviet scrap metal from the impoverished Kirgizstan. This growing Empire is living of the remainder of a fallen colossus. The film shows this phenomenon on a much smaller scale, observing slow rhythm of one family’s life, one truck drivel and a few small animals from the Tian Shan mountains. - Paris Dream, 52 min

Three years ago Dr. Waclaw Idziak, sociologist from Koszalin, came to few villages with a prophecy for their inhabitants – ‘you will be rich’. They though he is crazy, but soon it turned out that he was telling the truth. Now the villagers are making money on pretending Tolkien’s characters, juggling and making contact to UFO.
