Symposium "Virtually Yours" in Krakow 5-6 of June

The "Virtually Yours" symposium will take palce from 5th to 6th of June in the Manggha Centre of Japanese Art and Technology in Krakow. Second, Production Dragon Forum 2010 workshop in Warsaw took place, as in past years, in the historical building of Ujazdowski Castle, from April 21 to April 24. The workshop hosted by the Centre of Contemporary Art was dedicated to film production and to further development of projects.

On 10 April 2010 Polish Presidential delegation's plane crashed near Smolensk in Russia. All the passengers and crew (96 people) died, including the Presidential couple and other top officials. They were all going to participate in the celebrations commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Katy?? crime.

The International Documentary Film Workshops in Kiev, the Ukraine, are a Polish-Ukrainian film initiative which took place between 28 March and 1 April 2010. The organisers of this event were the Dragon Forum (Poland) and the Ukrainian Docudays Ua International Documentary Film Festival, an event dedicated to human rights.
 
This year's edition of the Dragon Forum International Workshops in Kiev featured 17 documentary film projects represented by nearly 40 documentary film-makers and television journalists from the Ukraine, Russia and Belarus. The workshops took place between 28 March and 1 April 2010, in the centre of the Ukrainian capital city, in the Cinema House. The number of observers of the works of the Dragon Forum reached a record high of 50!

"Rabbit a la Berlin" nominated for the Oscar Prize!

Film by Bartek Konopka and Piotr Rosołowski was nominated in "Best Documentary (short subject)" category.

This project about rabbits living in between the Berlin Wall took part as an observer in Dragon Forum workshops, in 2007 and here won the first tree co-producers.

The head of the Dragon Forum, Dorota Roszkowska, was development producer of the film.

Dragon Forum, an international project providing workshops for documentary filmamkers, was introduced during the ArtDocFest festival in “Chudożestwiennyj” cinema, Moscow. Dorota Roszkowska, the director of the workshops, showed a promotional film about the Dragon Forum concept and explained its motivation and objectives. She also led a discussion on the possibilities of participation in the workshops and pitching for people from Russia and the former USSR. Detailas on www.proficinema.ru.

Dragon Forum workshops will be  held in the Ujazdów Castle on Wednesday, 9 December 2009, at 2pm. The workshops will be conducted by Dorota Roszkowska, who will introduce the project, its aims and the participating works.

The meetings will be held during the 9th International Film Festival "Watch Docs - Human Rights in Film". Gennadiy Kofman from DocuDays.ua and Maciej Nowicki, the director of Watch Docs festival, will be also present during the event.

Leipzig Dragon Forum Projects Follow-up

Projects:ZUZIA, CHOPIN RELOADED, NEIGHBOURS and NO COMMAND, all presented for the first time at the Pitching Dragon Forum in Kraków, were also introduced  during the coproducers meeting at the 52nd International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film on 26-27 October 2009. Representatives from European ordering TV stations included Anna Onyszkiewicz- Kowalewska from TVP1 Documentary Forms editorial office.

The second workshop of this year's edition of the Dragon Forum took place between 16 -18 of April in the Centre for Contemporary Art in Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw. It was devoted to the further development of the script and to the preparation of the project in terms of production. A total of 16 selected projects were presented, and there were 38 participants, observers included.

The first workshop of the 2009 edition took place in Warsaw between 12-14 March at the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing. It was dedicated to script development. 21 selected projects were presented. There were 40 participants, including observers.

We are acquiring the applications of the documentary films projects for the international workshops Dragon Forum 2009 in the middle of Europe concluded by the pitching at the 49th Krakow Film Festival.

Dragon Forum works from 4 years already, during this time very intensive inititative containing workshops, consultations, meetings has developed international contacts and helped to come many creative documentaries into the international film market. We created very energetic and creative international net of documentary filmmakers in the Central – Eastern Europe.

Dragon Forum

  • work with the outstanding documentary filmmakers and international experts
  • unique meeting in the international documentary environment
  • presentation of the project at the international forum of commissioning editors from all over the world
  • entrance to the international documentary network

What films are we searching for?

Dragon Forum supports and develops documentary film projects touching the important issues of the contemporary world, problems that wouldn’t let us stay indiffrent. We do appreciate projects bravely developing the topic and the form.

We are awaiting for the film projects:

  • showing the images of the unique human stories
  • showing the stories of the witnesses of the epoque
  • touching social and political problems of the contemporary world
  • concerning the human rights
  • revealing complicated dependences of the world

Dragon Forum 2009

  • Dragon Forum 2009 workshops take place in Warsaw,
  • In March – script workshop,
  • In April – production workshop
  • workshops are led in the small groups with the international experts
  • the working language is English, help with the Polish, Russian and Ukrainian translation is available

The developed projects will be presented to the commissioning editors from the most important European and worldwide television station invited especially to the Dragon Forum pitching at the Krakow Film Festival in June 2009.

In 2009 edition we are particlarly interested in the theme concerning the year 1989 breaktrough in the Central and Eastern Europe – the fall of communism. How do we talk about it and how we see this time? How did we go trough with the freedom that we have won?

In the year 2009 the Dragon Forum participants will have a chance for the individual meetings with the main producers from Poland and Germany and the representatives of the German regional funds during the special co-production meeting – in May 2009 in Warsaw and with the commissioning editors and investors from all over the world during the final pitching in June 2009 in Krakow.

There will be two special awards for the best projects developed during the Dragon Forum workshops and presented at the pitching: financial award HBO Development Award and the Dragon Forum Award from the organizers – invitation for the co-production meetings during the festival in Leipzig.

3rd International Short Film Competition “Crossing Boundaries” »»

The Foundation “Remembrance, Responsibility and Future” and the Goethe-Institut are jointly organising the 3rd International Short Film Competition on the subject of “Crossing Boundaries”. Young filmmakers are asked to submit their visions of the geographic and socio-cultural legacies of the events of 1939 and the social consequences of those of 1989. The competition aims to examine the question in how far the end of the Cold War helped the world to overcome the rifts created in 1939, while also asking about the events’ possible social impacts.
